2019 Toyota RAV4 vs 2019 Nissan Rogue vs 2019 Honda CR-V

When it comes to finding the right family car for your needs, it's likely you will be considering the compact crossover segment. This segment combines the space you need with power and safety features to make it an ideal family vehicle. It can be difficult to decide which model is the right one for your family, though. That's why we've gone ahead and compared three popular choices: the 2019 Toyota RAV4, the 2019 Nissan Rogue, and the 2019 Honda CR-V. Discover why the Toyota model beats its Nissan and Honda rivals.

Performance & Efficiency

When it comes to standard power, there is a clear winner in this comparison: the Toyota RAV4. This crossover comes with a standard 2.5-liter inline four-cylinder engine, which puts out 203 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque. The Nissan Rogue comes standard with a 2.4-liter inline four-cylinder engine that only puts out 184 horsepower and 180 lb-ft of torque. For the Honda CR-V, its power lags even further behind despite having a similar 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine as the RAV4 - it only gets 170 horsepower and 175 lb-ft of torque.

Despite having the most power, the RAV4 also has the best highway fuel-efficiency ratings. It gets an estimated 35 mpg on the highway and 26 mpg in the city.* The Rogue only gets 31 mpg on the highway and 25 mpg in the city, while the CR-V gets 33 mpg on the highway and 26 mpg in the city.

Safety Technology

Safety is important in any family car and, while each of these three vehicles offer solid safety ratings, they don't all offer the most current safety technologies as standard. The RAV4 comes with a suite of driver-assistance technologies called Toyota Safety Sense™ 2.0. This means every RAV4 comes with a Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist, a Sway Warning System, Automatic High Beams, Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Road Sign Assist, and Lane Tracing Assist. These types of technologies are available on the Rogue and the CR-V only if you opt for a higher trim level than the base trim, though they do both come with standard rearview cameras.
